Here are a couple of tips to keep your drains running smoothly.
Clear the drains routinely
Every week or two, take a few minutes to clear your drain. One effective way to do this is the “volcano method” – using baking soda and vinegar to break up any clogs that might be starting. Be sure to run the hot water to flush out any gunk that’s been broken up by the reaction of the baking soda and vinegar.
Be conscious of what you put down the drain
Things like soap residue, hair, and body lotions may get washed down the drain creating a buildup that clogs later on. If you are mindful about what goes down the drain, maintenance will be much easier down the road.
Are you still having problems?
Sometimes the problem behind a clog isn’t as simple as it may appear and has more to do with the design of a home’s piping or some issue deeper in the line.
