Notice The Red Flags
It’s normal for a kitchen to be full of various smells. But, what if there is a strong pungent odor lingering for weeks? This is not normal, and can be a sign of one of the following:
Food has gone bad in the fridge, the trash has not been taken out, the dishes need to be washed or your garbage disposal is damaged. And if the odor still lurks with a newly cleaned kitchen, the chances are that the smell is stemming from the latter.
While lingering foul smells is a strong red flag of a damaged garbage disposal, other signs typically include slow draining, strange humming noises that occur once turned on, frequent resets, or total loss of function.
Garbage disposals typically last approximately 10 years, therefore, if you can’t remember when the garbage disposal was last installed, or if you’re a brand new homeowner, it may be time to consider a garbage disposal repair.
